USJ Faculty & Students

Access books, articles, and other library materials that are not available in the USJ Library collection through the Macao Academic Library Alliance (MALA).

Current USJ students and faculty can access materials held by MALA member libraries through two service models: 澳門文獻港 和 澳門高校圖書館聯盟借閱證.

USJ Library is a MALA Member

USJ members may borrow general books or articles available at participating MALA member libraries, subject to the lending library’s policies.

Who Can Use This Service?

The service is available to:

  • Current USJ students
  • Current USJ faculty

Before You Request

When the requested material is not available in the USJ Library collection, ILL personnel will attempt to provide the material.

USJ-owned materials that are currently unavailable, such as items that are lost or on loan, may also be considered.

Book Loan

When collecting a book requested through MALA Hub, present both:

  • Your USJ Card
  • The Pickup Email

Present these documents at the holding library’s circulation desk.

Digital Resources

Upon approval by the library, patrons will receive an email containing a link to the PDF.

The PDF is available for download for 30 days after delivery.

MALA Hub Fee: Book and article requests through MALA Hub are generally free. Document delivery and other applicable charges may apply in specific circumstances.

MALA Card — Onsite Loan

Borrow a MALA Card from USJ Library and visit the appropriate participating MALA library to borrow books or specific materials onsite.

Eligible Users

MALA Card service is available to all current students and faculty at USJ.

MALA Card Conditions

  • The card is non-transferable and renewable. Each USJ member can only borrow one card at a time.
  • MALA Cards are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • MALA Cards can only be used at the appropriate libraries and are not interchangeable.
  • Clearly indicate to the circulation desk which library card you need.

How to Borrow a MALA Card

  • Visit the USJ Library circulation desk.
  • Request the MALA Card for the appropriate library.
  • Borrow the card subject to availability.
  • Visit the appropriate MALA member library.

Onsite Book Loan

At the holding library’s circulation desk, present:

  • Your USJ Card
  • The 澳門高校圖書館聯盟借閱證
重要提示: MALA Cards are library-specific. They cannot be exchanged or used interchangeably at different libraries.

Eligible Users & Conditions

The following regulations apply to both MALA Hub and MALA Card interlibrary loan models.

  1. The service is available to all current students and faculty at USJ.
  2. The MALA Card is non-transferable and renewable. Each USJ member can only borrow one card at a time.
  3. MALA Cards are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.
  4. MALA Cards can only be used at the appropriate libraries and are not interchangeable.
  5. Patrons who borrow books through any interlibrary loan method must adhere to the lending library’s loan policies, including due dates and loan limits.
  6. On-loan items should be cleared before returning the MALA Card to USJ Library. Patrons must abide by the cooperating library’s rules and pay fines for overdue books at the rates set by that library.
  7. USJ Library reserves the right to terminate the use of ILL by patrons who repeatedly violate the rules.
  8. Borrowers must return all book loans within 2 days once they terminate or resign from the university.

What Can Be Requested?

Interlibrary service is intended to provide access to materials that are unavailable through the USJ Library collection.

Materials We May Attempt to Obtain

  • Items that do not belong to the USJ Library.
  • Materials owned by USJ Library but currently unavailable, such as lost or circulating items.

Items Not Available Through ILL

  • Material possessions of the USJ Libraries
  • Digitised books
  • Complete volumes and issues of periodicals and journals
  • Unpublished materials, such as conference proceedings
  • Documents retrieved from the ERIC database with accession numbers beginning with ED
  • Textbooks

Borrowing & Access

The documents required depend on the service model you choose.

Digital Resources

After library approval, patrons receive an email containing a link to the PDF.

Lending Library Rules

All borrowers must follow the lending library’s policies, including:

  • Due dates
  • Loan limits
  • Renewal conditions
  • Overdue fines

Charges & Fees

USJ Library does not normally charge a fee for interlibrary service, except in specified circumstances.

Delivery to USJ Library: For patrons who want to pick up the book in the USJ Library, each book will be charged MOP 25.00 for delivery fees.

International shipping: International requests may incur shipping charges. Patrons may also need to pay an additional contribution to receive the requested copy, depending on the holding library.

MALA Card Loss & Outstanding Balances

Lost MALA Card

  • Loss of the MALA Card must be reported to USJ Library immediately.
  • A replacement charge will apply.
  • After three notification emails, the library will automatically acknowledge the loss and proceed with loss processing.
  • Without notification, the patron is responsible for losses caused by fraudulent use of the card.

Outstanding Balances

Borrowing privileges will be temporarily revoked for patrons with outstanding balances.

This applies to both the USJ Library collection and interlibrary loan service until all payments are settled.

Follow these six steps to borrow books from a MALA member library using your MALA Card.

Important Information The card will be available for check-out
for a maximum of 30 days at a cost of
MOP 200 per replacement.
Additionally, each patron will be
limited to borrowing one card at a time.
