Journal articles that have been peer-reviewed have been evaluated by journal editors and other expert scholars who assess the quality and scientific merit of the article and its research. The peer-reviewed literature contains only articles that pass this process. Journals that have undergone peer review may publish the work of scholars who have collected their own data using an experimental study design, survey, or other study methodologies. In addition, they present the results of novel analyses of existing data sources, such as those described in this section.
How do I know if a journal article is scholarly (peer-reviewed)?
There are different methods for determining whether or not a work of writing has undergone peer review.
1) Information from the Database
2) Resources Item Type
You may find the journal titles as “periodical” (= not peer-reviewed) or “academic journal” (= peer-reviewed).
Tips
It’s crucial to remember that this clue does not necessarily imply that the work has undergone peer review. In actuality, not all publications published in journals with peer review are peer-reviewed.
For instance, editorials, news stories, and book reviews don’t go through the same review process as research articles.
