Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery

USJ Library is a member of the Macau Academic Library Alliance (MALA). USJ members are available at MALA member libraries to borrow books or specific materials. This regulation applies to the loan models of MALA Hub (online request) and MALA Card (onsite loan).

Eligible Users and Conditions

This service is available to all current students and faculty at USJ.

1. The card is non-transferable and renewable. Each USJ member can only borrow one card at a time.

2. MALA cards are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis.

3. MALA cards can only be used at the appropriate libraries and are not interchangeable. Please clearly indicate to the circulation desk which library card you need. The list of partners will be updated on the
library’s website immediately.

4. Patrons who borrow books through any of the interlibrary loan methods must adhere to the lending
library’s loan policies, including due dates and loan limits.

5. On-loan items should be cleared before returning the MALA card to the USJ Library.
Patrons must abide by the cooperating library’s rules and pay fines for overdue books at the rates set by
the library.

6. The USJ Library reserves the right to terminate the use of ILL by patrons who repeatedly violate the rules.

7. The borrowers must return all book loans within 2 days once they terminate or resign from the university.

Scopes

1. When the items do not belong to the USJ Library, ILL personnel will attempt to provide the requested
materials.

2. The USJ Library owns the materials, but they are currently unavailable (e.g., due to loss or circulation).

3. The following items will not be made available in response to requests:
– The material possessions of the USJ Libraries
– Digitised books
– Complete volumes and issues of periodicals and journals
– Unpublished materials (such as proceedings from a conference)
– Documents retrieved from the ERIC database (accession numbers starting with ED).
– Textbooks

Privileges

Book Loan: Patrons must present the following documents to the circulation desk for borrowing:
1. MALA Hub: Present your USJ card and Pickup email at the holding library.
2. Onsite Loan: Borrow a MALA Card from the USJ Library. Present your USJ card and MALA Card at the circulation desk of the holding library.

Digital Resources:
Upon approval by the library, patrons receive an email containing a link to the PDF, which is available for download for thirty days after delivery.

Charges and fees

1. The USJ Library does not charge a fee for this service except in the following cases:
– Fees requested by document delivery. Read Table 1.
– Loss of the card

2. After three notification emails, the library will automatically acknowledge the loss of the card and proceed with loss processing. The replacement charge for the card must paid by the patron.

3. Loss of the MALA card must be reported to the USJ Library immediately, and a replacement charge must
be made. In the absence of notification to the library, the patron will be responsible for all losses caused
by the loss of the card, including fraudulent use of the book by others.

4. The borrowing privileges of patrons with outstanding balances will be temporarily revoked, whether for
university collection or ILL service until all payments are settled.



Note:
For patrons who want to pick up the book in the USJ Library, each book will charge MOP 25.00 for delivery
fees.
Charge for international shipping.
Patrons may need to pay an extra contribution to receive the copy requested by the holding library.
