The University of Saint Joseph Library (hereafter “library”) does not actively solicit print donations. Regarding space and procedure, the library can only accept donations of books that directly support the university’s teaching and research activities. The university must authorize the acceptance of all materials. The library reserves the right to determine their retention and processing, as well as their disposition when a title is a duplicate or unsuitable for its needs.
The following categories of material will usually be accepted:
- Publications by USJ academics (in any format)
- New sample or review copies of scholarly works
- Recent scholarly works related to research activity at the University of Saint Joseph.
- Art catalogues with a specific USJ connection
- Manuscripts of scholarly works
The following items may be excluded:
- Donation objects that are unrelated to any USJ degree-level disciplines.
- Incomplete set (s), unless approved by the library.
- Autobiographies and family memoirs that have been independently published.
- Slim volumes of poetry by unknown poets.
- Only if there is academic demand will polemically work on contentious (e.g., geopolitical or
historical) issues be accepted. - Outdated textbooks (such as works on politics, economics, and trade that are older than two years).
- Works on law or medical human sciences that have been updated more than two years.
- Non-academic publications (such as “coffee table” books).
- Back issues of duplicate print journals may be used to fill gaps in a print run that are already
in the library. - Only if there is academic demand will “poor-condition” objects be accepted.
